Constant appeared on the news program 60 Minutes and revealed that he had been a paid operative of the CIA. He threatened to leak potentially damaging information regarding U.S. policy and covert action in Haiti.  For undisclosed reasons, U.S. officials reversed their position and allowed Constant to remain in the United States.
