In 2005 actor and singer Harry Belafonte founded The Gathering for Justice, an organization dedicated to helping stop the crisis of youth incarceration in the United States. Since its foundation the organization has held youth and elder gatherings across the nation and in November 2007 it conducted its first convention “The National Gathering for Justice” in Oakland, California.

In this special speech, Belafonte recalls a conversation he had with Martin Luther King during the civil rights movement, when King told him he believed they were integrating into a “burning house” and that one day they would have to become firemen. Belafonte believes that this time has come. This program originally aired as part of a Link TV special presentation.
