(UN) peacekeeping activities, and in the first two decades of the twenty-first

century the number of personnel deployed in such operations has risen to
unprecedented levels. In August 2018, a total of over 103,000 personnel,
with almost 90,000 uniformed staff from 124 countries served in fourteen
peacekeeping operations, primarily in Africa, the Middle East and Asia as
well as in Haiti.1
